James CameronWho knows what James Cameron is up to. Since directing the highest grossing movie of all time (Titanic) the guy hasn’t been able to settle down into another feature film. There’s been rumors here and there, but nothing solid. And although Cameron has publicly said that Battle Angel would be his next project, word comes today that the director is again shifting his focus.

According to Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, while work continues on Battle Angel, Cameron is readying a parallel project, tentatively titled Project 880. Both films would be shot in 3-D with custom-designed high-definition cameras.

Battle Angel is based on the 12 popular Japanese graphic novels about a nymphette who morphs into an action heroine. Cameron has been working on a script from Laeta Kalogridis (Alexander), however, word is that it has been a difficult script to adapt. And, while Lightstorm would not reveal a final title or story line for the new project it is calling Project 880, Cameron could decide to film that feature before tackling Battle Angel.

Cameron has also been developing The Dive, an underwater adventure based on a Sports Illustrated story about freediver Francisco Ferreras and his wife Audrey Mestre, who died while trying to break her own depth record.
