Giamatti Joins ’Illusionist’
Paul Giamatti, who was recently robbed of an Oscar nomination, has signed to star opposite Edward Norton in director Neil Burger’s The Illusionist.
“The Illusionist” is the story of a magician in turn-of-the-century Vienna who falls in love with a woman who becomes engaged to a prince. He then uses his powers to win her back and undermine the stability of the royal house of Vienna. Here’s my question. When will they stop calling the early 1900s “the turn of the century”? Wasn’t the turn of the century just a few of years ago?
Burger adapted the screenplay from Steven Millhauser’s short story, “Eisenheim the Illusionist”. The film is scheduled to begin production April 1st in Prague.
Giamatti will follow “The Illusionist” with Paper Man for Kieran and Michelle Mulroney.
